The Virginia Tech College of Engineering is the academic unit that manages engineering research and education at Virginia Tech. The College can trace its origins to 1872, and was formally established in 1903. When the first administrative instructional divisions were established in 1903-04, engineering was one of four academic departments for which a dean was appointed.
